Equine Physiotherapy

Veterinary physiotherapy is an important part in managing the equine athlete. ALL horses can benefit from veterinary physiotherapy regardless of their age, work level and discipline. Charlotte Duke Veterinary Physiotherapy aims to provide high quality veterinary physiotherapy techniques to enhance and maintain the health and performance of your horse. Charlotte Duke Veterinary Physiotherapy provides a holistic approach, working with other paraprofessionals, such as vets, saddle fitters, farriers and dentists in order to provide effective, long-lasting results.

Common problems and conditions which could benefit from veterinary physiotherapy:

  • Cold-backed

  • Change of behaviour (girthing, riding, in stable)

  • Difficulty on one rein

  • Wrong canter lead

  • Lack of bend

  • Head tilt

  • Kissing Spines

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Tendon / Ligament Injury

  • Fractures

  • Neurological Conditions such as Wobblers

What to Expect:

Equine appointments usually last 1hour - 1 hour 45 minutes. During initial assessment I will take a full history, and perform a thorough assessment of your horse's posture and movement, followed by treatment of the whole body using a range of techniques, focusing on any problem areas. Your horse will be reassessed at each appointment.

I will use a range of techniques, including manual therapy, electrotherapy, remedial exercises and other modalities to ensure maximum benefit to each individual horse. Each treatment is tailored depending on the requirements of your specific horse, using a sound knowledge base and clinical reasoning.

I will usually leave you with a bespoke exercise programme and some helpful management tips to ensure ongoing progression.

I treat a variety of equines (horses, ponies, donkeys and mules) and conditions including orthopaedic, neurological and musculoskeletal problems and pain, as well as maintaining your horse at their optimal performance level.
