What is Veterinary Physiotherapy?

Veterinary Physiotherapy is a science, evidence-based profession, used to promote, restore, and maintain physical function and emotional well-being. Veterinary physiotherapy aims to optimise conditions within an animal's body so that it can start to heal. Veterinary Physiotherapy supports rehabilitation of injuries, disease and musculoskeletal abnormalities, incorporating analysis of posture, movement and muscular tone, together with a number of different treatment modalities, including manual therapies, electrotherapies and remedial exercise. It can aid animals of all ages and disciplines.

Veterinary physiotherapy is a complimentary treatment to restore function and improve performance by:

  • Reducing pain

  • Reducing inflammation

  • Accelerating wound healing

  • Increasing range of motion

  • Improving flexibility

  • Improving strength

  • Reducing the likelihood of injury/re-injury

  • Helping to improve quality of life

  • Maintaining comfort in elderly patients

The aim of veterinary physiotherapy is to return a patient to as near normal function as possible and to enhance performance.
